摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve engine output and fuel economy, by realizing quick combustion of an air-fuel mixture in a spark ignition engine. SOLUTION: This multipoint ignition engine 1 has central electrode pairs 9 arranged in the center of a combustion chamber 2 and forming a central ignition gap 10, and a plurality of peripheral electrode pairs 12 held by a head gasket 15 having an opening part having substantially the same diameter as an opening part of a cylinder 5 in a position corresponding to the opening part of the cylinder 5 and forming a plurality of peripheral ignition gaps 13 along the inner periphery of the opening part of the cylinder 5. The air-fuel mixture homogeneously mixed with fuel and air and having the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio or thicker/thinner than this, is ignited by using both the central ignition gap 10 and the plurality of peripheral ignition gaps 13.
