PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve engine output and fuel economy, by realizing quick combustion of an air-fuel mixture in a spark ignition engine. SOLUTION: This multipoint ignition engine 1 has central electrode pairs 9 arranged in the center of a combustion chamber 2 and forming a central ignition gap 10, and a plurality of peripheral electrode pairs 12 held by a head gasket 15 having an opening part having substantially the same diameter as an opening part of a cylinder 5 in a position corresponding to the opening part of the cylinder 5 and forming a plurality of peripheral ignition gaps 13 along the inner periphery of the opening part of the cylinder 5. The air-fuel mixture homogeneously mixed with fuel and air and having the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio or thicker/thinner than this, is ignited by using both the central ignition gap 10 and the plurality of peripheral ignition gaps 13. The voltage impression timing to the plurality of peripheral ignition gaps 13 is set slower than the voltage impression timing to the central ignition gap 10. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
