PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine starter which provides compatibly both a fuel economy improving effect, and quickly and excellently reaccelerating at an NVH level. SOLUTION: The engine starter has a stopping-restarting control means for making automatic restarting control, by performing engine automatic stopping control, and also has a deceleration time fuel stopping control means and an automatic transmission. An automatic stopping condition of an engine includes the case of being realized in a performance area of deceleration time fuel stopping control. The stopping-restarting control means makes the engine automatic stopping control, while putting the automatic transmission in a drive state 75, when the automatic stopping condition is realized in the performance area of the deceleration time fuel stopping control (t1'), and performs the engine automatic stopping control, by switching the automatic transmission to a neutral state 76, when the automatic stopping condition is realized, when the engine is put in a combustion state (t0).
