PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image heating device that makes it easy to slacken a contact part coming into contact with a belt while preventing a portion of the belt from concentrically being heated when the belt is stopped and heated in standby mode. SOLUTION: The standby mode includes a stop period wherein the belt is heated in the stopped state and a rotation period wherein the belt is rotated, and when the rotation in the rotation period stops, the belt is stopped such that at least a portion of a region heated by a heating means in the stopped state before the rotation starts overlaps with a region where a contact member comes in contact with the belt.
