PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat exchanger having excellent heat transfer performance capable of detecting leakage of heat medium and the like without delay. SOLUTION: The heat exchanger 1 of this invention is structured by providing a small diameter pipe 3 in a large diameter pipe 2 along its pipe axial direction. The small diameter pipe 3 consists of an outer pipe 4 and an inner pipe 5 coaxially provided in the outer pipe 4. A leakage detection passage is formed by roughening an inner face of the outer pipe 4 and/or an outer face of the inner pipe 5 and an outside flow passage 7 between the large diameter pipe 2 and the small diameter pipe 3 is used as a flow passage of a first heat medium W and inside of the inner pipe 5 is used as a flow passage of a second heat medium X.
