PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device which makes efficient monitoring possible on the intensity of light propagating in an optical waveguide and which has a simple structure of the monitor part as well as making mounting easy. SOLUTION: The optical device is equipped with: a light introducing part 201 that has a higher refractive index than an optical waveguide and that takes in the evanescent components of light propagating in the optical waveguide; an optical path converting part 202 that reflects the light taken in to convert the optical path in the direction nearly vertical to a substrate 101; and a photodetector 204 that receives the light after the conversion of the optical path.
