A system and a method for managing documents are provided to check whether a document the user requires is changed or not legally by contacting to a web sever to check legal state of the selected documents. A system a method for managing documents comprises a database(210), a representative value output unit(220), and a document management unit(230). The database stores documents. The representative value output unit outputs a representative value from the documents. The documents management unit checks legal state of the documents, contacts to a web sever providing the documents so as to determine whether legal state of the required documents is changed on the basis of the representative value.
