Digital data is stored in an electromagnetic delay line by transmitting along the line datarepresenting signals as first pulses of one polarity and simultaneously retransmitting said signals along the line as pulses of opposite polarity interposed between said first pulses. The delay line storage capacity is thus doubled. As described, an electromagnetic delay line 1 for storing a word of 2N + 1 digits is terminated by a resistor 2 and has an electrical length of N + ¢ digits. Data to be stored, represented by positive pulses or the absence of a pulse, to a total of 2N + 1 digit periods, is applied to an input 3 connected to an " or " circuit 4. The output of the " or " circuit 4, together with positive clock pulses from a source 12, is applied to an " and " gate 7 connected via an " or " circuit 9 to the input of the delay line 1. The output of the delay line 1 is connected to a first inverter-amplifier 17 responsive only to positive pulses, the negative output pulse thereof being applied to an " and " gate 13 fed also with negative clock pulses from the source 12, the negative clock pulses being interlaced with the positive clock pulses supplied to the gate 7. The output of the " and " gate 13 is connected via the " or " circuit 9 to the input of the delay line 1. The output of the delay line 1 is connected also to a second invert-amplifier 18 responsive only to negative pulses, the output thereof being connected to the input of the delay line via the gates 4, 7, 9. In a second embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), the electrical length of the delay line is such that the pulses of one polarity are reflected back along the line as pulses of the other polarity interposed in the gaps between the advancing pulses of said one polarity.
