PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hub unit and its manufacturing method in which the outer ring is fitted with a cover in order to seal the inside of the hub unit, and a good sealing performance is assured between the cover and the cover fitting part of the outer ring. SOLUTION: The spacing of adjoining tool marks on the inside circumferential surface 45 of the outer ring 2 ranges between 310-600μm, and the load length rate Rmr (50%) of the roughness curve at a cut level of 50% ranges between 37-60%, while the ten-point mean roughness Rz JIS ranges 1.5-8μm, and the cover is fitted using the inside circumferential surface 45 as a fitting part.
