PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetooptic element that exhibits magnetooptic effect which is large in a wide wavelength range including a short-wavelength range in the center and whose saturation magnetic field is about 0.1, or small, and is made of a material suitable for downsizing and higher performance of the magnetooptic element. SOLUTION: The magnetooptic element is characterized in that primary component composition of ZnCoO is encircled with four points of Zn:Co:O=44:6:50, Zn:Co:O=48:6:46, Zn:Co:O=32:22:46, and Zn:Co:O=26:22:52.
