PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film useful for a protective film for a polarizing plate nearly free from deterioration with passage of time in UV absorption power and IR absorption power and free from deterioration of visibility of a liquid crystal display (LCD) even when the LCD is continuously used for a long time. SOLUTION: In the optical film made of a resin film containing a UV absorbing agent and an IR absorbing agent, a first region containing the UV absorbing agent is provided on one surface side of the film, a second region containing the IR absorbing agent is provided on the other surface side of the film, and a third region containing both the UV absorbing agent and the IR absorbing agent is provided intermediately between the first and the second regions. The UV absorbing agent is preferably contained in the range of 3 to 70% thickness of the total film thickness from the one surface side of the film and the IR absorbing agent is preferably contained in the range of 3 to 70% of the total film thickness from the other surface side of the film.
