PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that always carries out preferable charging and always produces preferable images regardless to the use state of a charged body (image carrier) and a charging member, and that reduces a shave amount of an image carrier (photoreceptor) to obtain a long life. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with: a contact charging member which contacts a photoreceptor drum to uniformly charge the drum; and a developing means which develops an electrostatic latent image on the photoreceptor drum with a toner. The toner contains magnetic particles having a shape of an octahedron as a basic form which is a convex polyhedron enclosed with eight triangles with vertexes and ridge lines of the octahedron in curved planes and its projected image including a portion regarded as a straight line in the periphery. By using the above rounded octahedron particles, the life time of the photoreceptor is extended by four or more times compared with a system using angular octahedral particles having sharp vertexes and ridges.
