PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of determining the stead-state values of the characteristic parameters of an internal combustion engine while securing necessary accuracy in a short time in adaptation work. SOLUTION: In this method of determining the stead-state values of the characteristic parameters of the internal combustion engine, after the engine control state of the internal combustion engine is set to a steady-state value measuring engine control state for measuring the steady-state values of the characteristic parameters of the internal combustion engine, the values of the characteristic parameters after a predetermined standby time is elapsed are measured. The values are used as the stead-state values of the characteristic parameters in the steady-state value measuring engine control state.
