PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type video display device capable of reproducing natural coloring by automatic wall color correction even if an error is caused in the detection result of a detection means such as a passive sensor. SOLUTION: The projection type video display device includes: a storage means that uses luminance data in RGB colors on a white projection screen to make the data default preset values, obtains the ratio of the default preset values to luminance data in RGB colors of a prescribed color on the projection screen, and stores in advance the ratio of a prescribed range around the preset values with the ratio; and a control means that detects the luminance data in RGB colors on the projection screen used at the time of ordinary use by using a sensor, obtains the ratio of the default preset values to the detected luminance data in RGB colors, references the storage means on the basis of the obtained ratio, selects a preset value with the ratio of a center of the range including the ratio, and uses the preset value to control white balance correction of a video signal processing means.
