PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce processing time for discriminating the kind of disks. SOLUTION: A plurality of kinds of data of the optical disks which have been discriminated in the past and are stored in a flash ROM 118 are transferred to a RAM when the power is turned on. A microcomputer 113 starts determining the kind which is used most frequently on the basis of the plurality of the kinds of optical disks that are transferred to the RAM and the data in the RAM are updated according to a discrimination result when the kind is discriminated. Also, when turning off the power the microcomputer transfers the data in the RAM to the flash ROM and then it turns off the power. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
