PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a front filter for PDP (Plasma Display Panel) which has an electromagnetic wave shielding function, does not suppress a viewing angle as much as possible, and has a high contrast, and is stuck directly on an observer side of a front substrate of a PDP when used. SOLUTION: The front filter for PDP has at least a contrast improvement layer and an electromagnetic wave shielding layer and is suck directly on the observer side of the plasma display panel (PDP). The contrast improvement layer has a transmission surface for PDP display light formed by arraying many lens portions which transmit light and many light absorption portions which absorb light alternately in a meashing shape. Here, the lens portions extend linearly in a predermined direction along a surface direction of the layer and a cross section perpendicular to the extension direction is in a shape of a trapezoid whose wide base is directed to the observer side. The light absorption portions extend linearly in a direction parallel to the lens portions and a cross section perpendicular to the extension direction is in a shape of a wedge whose wide base is directed to the PDP side.
