PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner permitting to reduce a reflecting surface area of an optical scanner as much as possible, and also permitting to reduce a mounting space as much as possible, and to provide an image forming apparatus provided with the same. SOLUTION: In the optical scanner for making the light reflected from a reflecting surface perform scanning by rocking of the reflecting surface reflecting incident light, the reflecting surface is formed by a diffractive structure. The image forming device forms an image by scanning of luminous flux according to image signals, and comprises: a light source emitting luminous flux; the optical scanner with the diffractive structure formed on the reflecting surface; and the scanning part for performing scanning of the luminous flux emitted from the light source.
