The device has guide rails (3) of spindle box slides (5) and two hydrostatic bearings with a bearing case (1), centrically arranged. The bearing case is directly connected via a T-shaped pipe section (4) for receiving a hydraulic fluid. A direct linear measuring system is firmly arranged in a spindle box (7) for detecting the projecting length of the horizontal spindle unit by using a tool. Two linear measuring systems are provided for determining the position of ball screws (2) in a machine stand.
