PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical product having a high refractive index and a high Abbe's number, excellent heat resistance, weather resistance and transparency, and suitably used for a plastic lens, prism, optical fiber, information recording medium substrate, color filter, IR absorbing filter or the like. SOLUTION: The optical product comprises a polymer obtained from an organic germanium compound expressed by formula (1) as an essential monomer component. In formula (1), R<SB>1</SB>represents a mercapto group or a 1-3C alkane residue, 4-7C cycloalkane residue, 3-7C heterocyclic compound residue having oxygen, nitrogen or sulfur as a heteroatom or 6-10C aromatic compound residue having a mercapto group; and R<SB>2</SB>represents a hydrogen atom, a mercapto group or a 1-3C alkane residue, a 4-7C cycloalkane residue, a 3-7C heterocyclic compound residue having oxygen, nitrogen or sulfur as a heteroatom or a 6-10C aromatic compound residue, wherein each residue may have a substituent.
