An intelligent robot vacuum cleaner and a method of driving the same are provided to clean efficiently by determining the best route and method for cleaning based on repeated cleaning route(distance and direction) and surrounding environmental information(floor state and pollution state). A method of driving an intelligent robot vacuum cleaner includes the steps of: determining absence and presence of route information accumulated in the robot cleaner when the robot cleaner starts operation(S202); reading out a first route information if no route information in the robot cleaner, and operating the robot cleaner based on the first route information(S204,S206); collecting environmental information and position information of the robot cleaner as the robot cleaner is in motion(S208); updating the first route information in real time by collecting environmental information and position information of the robot cleaner(S210); judging whether or not the accumulated route information is the final one, determining the shortest returning route if the accumulated route information is the final one, and returning the robot cleaner to an initial position on the first route information(S212,S214).
