PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer composition and an absorbent, having high mechanical strength, and high absorption rate and absorbency. SOLUTION: The polymer composition, especially an active substance-containing storage material or an absorbent composition substantially comprises a water-soluble polymer and/or a water-swellable polymer containing polysaccharides as main components as a base, a water-swellable synthetic polymer as an additional component used as a polymer component, a matrix material for preventing separation and gel blocking, an ionically crosslinking agent or a covalently crosslinking agent, and an anti-blocking agent.
