PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which a biadamantanecarboxylic acid derivative can simply be produced from a readily available compound in high yield and selectivity. SOLUTION: A biadamantane derivative having at least one group eliminable with an acid and producing a carbocation in the adamantane skeleton in at least the one adamantane skeleton is reacted with carbon monoxide or its equivalent thereof in the presence of fuming sulfuric acid having a strength of≥105 wt.% sulfuric acid equivalent to afford the biadamantane derivative having a carboxy group in the adamantane skeleton. The method for production is particularly useful when the biadamantane derivative having at least the one group eliminable with the acid and producing the carbocation in the adamantane skeleton in at least the one adamantane skeleton and≥2 substituents such as hydrocarbon groups in the bridgehead positions of the two adamantane skeletons, respectively is used as a reaction raw material.
