PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expansion/contraction type pillar-like body with a compact and inexpensive structure capable of reducing an installation space and performing loading of an article to be mounted of large weight. SOLUTION: In the expansion/contraction type pillar-like body constituted such that connection length of a strut is varied by connecting a plurality of struts 1, 2, 3 to a belt 12 and driving the belt 12 by a winding device 10 to relatively move the struts 1, 2, 3, the winding device 10 is attached to an outer side of the first strut 1 at the outermost part and a block 14 or the like is mounted to a predetermined position of the struts 1, 2, 3. The belt 12 paid out from the winding device 10 is rolled/contacted with the block while penetrating it through a space between the respective inner struts 2, 3, it is relatively movably hung down in a vertical direction by the belt 12, and the belt 12 is driven by the winding device 10.
