<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium conveying device capable of enhancing conveying accuracy of a recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: Conveying load generated by back tension is presumed during when the recording medium P is conveyed by a paper feeding roller 6, i.e., before conveying by a conveying roller 27 is started, a control parameter for reducing the conveying load is determined from the presumed conveying load, and the determined control parameter is outputted from a forward compensation unit 83 before conveying by the conveying roller 27 is started.
