PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of inexpensively forming pixel gaps each of which has a size less than the limit of patterning based on photolithography. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device comprising a semiconductor substrate 24 on which a plurality of reflection type pixel electrodes 10 arrayed like a matrix with prescribed pixel gaps 20 are formed through an insulating layer, a transparent substrate 26 on which a transparent electrode 26 opposed to the pixel electrodes 10 through a prescribed gap is formed, and liquid crystal 28 with which the gap is filled is provided with: patterning films 90 formed on respective pixel electrodes 10 through a gap whose size is wider than the size of the pixel gap; and sidewalls 94 formed through a gap of almost the same size as the pixel gap on a position corresponding to the pixel gap on the peripheral parts of respective patterning films 90 so as to surround the peripheries of respective patterning films 90.
