PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetoresistive effect element in which the outputΔRA is enhanced, the sensitivity is enhanced by reducing the coercive force Hc and the shift amount Hin from zero magnetic field, and the pin stability is enhanced by increasing the magnetic field Hua at a point where the resistance is reduced by half. SOLUTION: The CPP type magnetoresistive effect element has a multilayer ferry spin valve structure including an underlying layer, a fixed ferromagnetic layer, a nonmagnetic metal intermediate layer and a free ferromagnetic layer wherein the free ferromagnetic layer is composed of CoFeAl or CoMnAl of specified composition and the underlying layer consists of an amorphous metal lower layer and a nonmagnetic metal upper layer.
