PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a beacon light device for rolling stock capable of constantly controlling luminescence intensity of a beacon light and automatically carrying out on/off switching of a heater of the beacon light suitably, and a rolling stock rear sign indication method. SOLUTION: The device includes a direct-current power supply 1, a beacon light 2 fitted at an end of a rear cart of a rolling stock to be a rearmost train, an electric heater 3, a reflection type indication plate 4 made of a reflectorized paint coated metal or the like, a DC-DC converter 5 connected to the direct current power supply 1 and the beacon light 2 for keeping a voltage value nearly constant, a first switch 6, a second switch 7, a temperature sensor 11 measuring temperature around the beacon light, an illumination photometer 12 measuring illuminance around the beacon light, a first microcomputer 13 controlling of turning on or off of electricity from the direct-current power supply 1 to the electric heater 3 depending on whether a temperature around the beacon light is lower than a first temperature, and a microcomputer 14 controlling of turning on or off on electricity from the direct current power supply 1 to the beacon light 2 by whether an illuminance around the beacon light is lower than a first illuminance.
