PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymeric modifying agent for a cellulose ester free from the problems of the lowering of transparency and clouding even by compounding to a cellulose ester. SOLUTION: The modifying agent for cellulose ester is composed mainly of a polyester having a number-average molecular weight of 1,000-5,000 and obtained by reacting ethylene glycol, succinic acid, a monofunctional carboxylic acid having aromatic ring and/or its ester-forming derivative and an alcohol component and acid component composed of a polyfunctional alcohol excluding ethylene glycol and/or a bifunctional carboxylic acid excluding succinic acid.
