A method and an apparatus for providing and using public transport information are provided to improve the convenience of use and to reduce the number of self-driving vehicles by expecting the waiting time for the public transport system via installing a demodulator outputting the message sequence. An apparatus for providing public transport information includes a demodulator(804), a decoder(806), an output unit, and a control unit(822). The demodulator outputs the message sequence having the public transport information by demodulating the received signal. The decoder decodes the extracted public transport information and the position information by extracting the identified information indicating the information of the message segment to be the road event information and the public transport information including the road event information from each message segment in the message sequence. The output unit outputs the information. The control unit outputs the information received from the decoder through the output unit. The public transport information includes a detailed description about the road event information.
