In a combination sliding bolt mechanism and keeper for a luggage case the sliding bolt B is held in a position in which a lug F is engaged in a recess 64 of a keeper E, Fig. 9 (not shown) by a wedge shaped lug 38 on a keeper closing member C engaging behind a wedge shaped lug 52 on the bolt B, Fig. 2. To disengage the lug F and the keeper recess 64 the closing member C is depressed against a bow spring J to disengage the lugs 38, 52 and the bolt B is moved to one side by a spring K pivoting a bolt releasing member D upwards, Fig. 3 (not shown). A tumbler G is provided to lock the closing member C by means of a key which is inserted in a key barrel H and voluted to move the tumbler G from a free position, Fig. 5 (not shown) in which a tumbler recess 88 is engaged by a projection 78 on the bolt B to a position in which a lug 82 on the tumbler G is moved to a position beneath a lug 42 on the member C to prevent depression of the member C. The tumbler G is slidable between lugs 74, 741 and 76, 761 on the bolt B and is held in the operative position by a further recess 88 engaging the projection 78. The bolt B is returned to the keeper engaging position by depression of the bolt releasing member D.
