A positive active material for a lithium secondary battery is provided to prevent a deterioration of a positive active material upon charge and have a high capacity, good cycle characteristics, and an excellent safety upon charge. The positive active material for a lithium secondary battery comprises: an active material capable of intercalation and de-intercalation of lithium; and a polyether-modified silicone oil supported on the active material. The polyether-modified silicone oil is contained in an amount of 0.001-10% by mass based on the total mass of the positive active material. The lithium secondary battery(1) comprises: a positive electrode(11) including the positive active material capable of intercalation and de-intercalation of lithium; a negative electrode(12) including a negative active material capable of intercalation and de-intercalation of lithium; and a non-aqueous electrolyte.
