The closure device has an actuator (1), an actuation sensor (2), an electric motor drive (3) with a driven plate (4) and a driven locking pawl (9) for a rotary catch (10). When the actuator is being driven, the drive controls the driven plate to pivot the pawl, starting and ending in the initial position of the pawl. The drive is first held in the retracted pawl position and activated again after a defined period, whereby the pawl is only moved into its initial position after full opening of the rotary catch.
