A polycarbonate diol, characterized in that it comprises a recurring unit represented by the following formula (A) and a recurring unit represented by the following formula (B), both the terminal groups thereof are hydroxyl groups, it contains the unit represented by the following formula (A) and the unit represented by the following formula (B) in a proportion of 99 : 1 to 1 : 99, and it has a number average molecular weight of 300 to 10,000. (A) (B) The above polycarbonate diol is novel, and can be suitably used as a raw material compound for producing a polycarbonate based polyurethane having a satisfactory mechanical strength and being excellent in the balance of physical properties such as oil resistance, the resistance to hydrolysis and weather resistance, and further is amorphous.
