The method involves testing an indentation on a material to determine a value of stiffness which permits to assign a tactile notation evaluated from reference samples. A graph of tactile notation is compared with a reference derived from a sample chart or an external reference according to the thickness or a bijective function such as logarithm of values of the stiffness of the material, to qualify the material, where the external reference is constituted by a series of samples presenting increased hardness SENSOTACT(RTM: Not defined) that is ensured tactically by a panel operator. An independent claim is also included for a device for measuring tactile performance of a material, comprising an operating parameters recording unit.
