<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which has the same constitution with conventional liquid crystal display devices and is improved in reliability in a severe use environment and also improved in display quality in up-down, right-left, and oblique directions, especially, a TN mode liquid crystal display device by adjusting arrangement angle relation among the axis of absorption of a polarizing plate, the alignment axis of a liquid crystal cell substrate, and the alignment control direction of an optical compensation sheet. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is characterized in that the axis of absorption of the polarizing plate and the screen right-left direction of the display device are parallel or perpendicular, the alignment axis of the liquid crystal cell substrate and the alignment control direction of an optical anisotropic layer cross each other at an angle of intersection of 10 to 35°, and Re+2×Rth≤280 is satisfied, where Re is the in-surface retardation [nm] of a protective film of the polarizing plate and Rth is the thickness-directional retardation [nm] of the protective film. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
