PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-performance extended triangular grid photonic bandgap fiber the transmission bandwidth of which is far wider than that of a traditional photonic bandgap fiber. SOLUTION: The extended triangular grid photonic bandgap fiber has a clad in which a multiplicity of holes are provided along the longitudinal direction of a fiber in a silica glass portion, the holes being arranged like an expanded triangular grid, and a capillary core in which a plurality of holes are arranged like a triangular grid.
