PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface emitting laser device capable of outputting high power. SOLUTION: In this laser device, each layer is as follows. Reflecting layers 103, 107 are adjacent to a resonator comprising spacer layers 104, 106 and an active layer 105. A low refractive index layer 1031 of the reflecting layer 103 comprises n-(Al<SB>0.7</SB>Ga<SB>0.3</SB>)<SB>0.5</SB>In<SB>0.5</SB>P and a high refractive index layer 1032 comprises n-(Al<SB>0.1</SB>Ga<SB>0.9</SB>)<SB>0.5</SB>In<SB>0.5</SB>P. The low refractive index layer 1031 is adjacent to the spacer layer 104. A low refractive index layer 1071 of the reflecting layer 107 comprises p-(Al<SB>0.7</SB>Ga<SB>0.3</SB>)<SB>0.5</SB>In<SB>0.5</SB>P and a high refractive index layer 1072 comprises p-(Al<SB>0.1</SB>Ga<SB>0.9</SB>)<SB>0.5</SB>In<SB>0.5</SB>P.
