PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold clamping force controlling method capable of adjusting the mold clamping force in a short time even if the mold to be used is changed. SOLUTION: The mold clamping apparatus obtains a mold clamping force by pressing, by moving a movable part 13, a movable mold 11b fitted to the movable part 13 against a fixed mold 11a fitted to a fixing part 12. There are set predetermined operational amounts of the mold clamping apparatus in generating the mold clamping force by the mold clamping apparatus. There is detected a magnitude of the mold clamping force generated when the mold clamping apparatus drives by the predetermined operational amounts. The corresponding relationships between the magnitudes of the predetermined operational amounts and the magnitude of the detected mold clamping force are stored, and the mold clamping force is adjusted using the very corresponding relationships.
