961,774. Re-facing tap seatings. S. J. SHAMES, and H. SHAMES. March 15, 1962 [April 10, 1961], No. 10010/62. Heading B3T. A portable tool for facing the seating in taps comprises a spindle 12 with handle 14 at one end and a circular cutter 52 screwed to the other end. The spindle 12 is supported centrally by a sleeve 32 which is threaded (left-hand), on the outside and has a flange 38 at the lower end. One or two sleeves 46, 48 of resilient material surrounding the sleeve are compressed by holding a washer 28 while rotating the sleeve so that the sleeve is held firmly and centrally in the body of the tap. The washer 28 bears on the exposed end of the tap body and is screwed to the sleeve. The latter is rotated to set-up the tool by inserting a wire pin 22, at the end of a loop loose on the spindle, into a hole 20 in the spindle and engaging notches 40 in the end of the sleeve. This pin is withdrawn before the facing operation. |
