An aberration correcting unit, an optical pickup device, an information reproducing apparatus, an aberration correcting program, and an aberration correcting method are provided to stabilize a detecting signal during control time. An aberration correcting unit comprises a liquid crystal unit, a lens unit, a drive unit, and a control unit. The liquid crystal unit includes a first transparent electrode, a second transparent electrode, and a liquid crystal. The first transparent electrode has a plate shape divided into areas of a first number of a division in a concentric circle. The second transparent electrode has a plate shape areas of a second number of a division in a concentric circle greater than the number of the division in the concentric circle. The liquid crystal is interposed between the first transparent electrode and the second transparent electrode generates a phase difference corresponding to a predetermined potential with respect to an incident light beam. The lens unit concentrates light beams passing through the liquid crystal unit on a predetermined light focusing position. The drive unit applies predetermined potential, correcting aberration of the light beam, to each divided electrodes comprising the first and second transparent electrodes. The drive unit controls the drive unit. The control unit includes a potential calculating unit(322), a change quantity calculating unit(323), and a potential changing unit(324). The potential calculating unit calculates potentials applied to each of divided electrodes of the first and second transparent electrodes. The change quantity calculating unit calculates potential change quantity between calculated potentials and applied potentials. The potential changing unit changes the potentials applied to the divided electrodes sequentially through the potential calculating unit based on the potential change quantity.
