PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain variation of time until start of engagement while ensuring response of an engagement pressure of an engaging side friction element, and restrain hydraulic vibrations in transmission at the very low temperature. SOLUTION: This control device of an automatic transmission comprises an automatic transmission for achieving transmission by fastening a first friction element and releasing a second friction element, transmission determination means determining the transmission of the automatic transmission, a line pressure control valve controlling the pressure to the line pressure by draining a drainage pressure of an oil pump, line pressure control means controlling the line pressure control valve, a first engagement pressure control valve controlling the line pressure to an engagement pressure of the first friction element, and first engagement pressure control means controlling the first engagement pressure control valve. The device comprises oil temperature detection means for detecting the temperature of oil inside the automatic transmission, and very low temperature engagement pressure control means for starting transmission by a maximum hydraulic command for complete engagement to the first engagement pressure control valve and continuing the maximum hydraulic command till transmission is completed when the transmission determining means determines the transmission.
