PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide polyimide resin with few foreign matters or a method for producing the resin. SOLUTION: The method for producing polyimide resin comprises adding a precipitation solvent to a polyimide resin solution, filtrating the obtained polyimide resin mixture solution, then adding more precipitation solvent to precipitate polyimide resin. Especially, precipitation solvent amount added to the polyimide resin solution is preferably within an amount range causing no polyimide resin precipitation. Thereby, the polyimide resin with few foreign matters can be obtained, formative products (films, coat layers, molded products and the like) having little foreign matter defects can be formed and so the resin is useful.
