PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device not only which can be accurately focused on an object even in photographing over glass by performing focusing by a passive system, but also which can eliminate a defect that it takes much time to perform focusing. SOLUTION: In ordinary photographing, a focus lens 3 is moved from a short-distance position to a long-distance position, and is located and focused at a position where the value of a contrast component is the largest. In photographing over the glass, even if the large value of the contrast component is detected near the short distance, it is neglected, and focusing operation is performed based on the value of the contrast component detected near the long distance, whereby the accurate photographing over the glass is performed not only in the daytime but also at night.
