PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly read an image even if the moving speed of an image reading sensor is increased. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus is provided with the image reading sensor moving relatively to an original and reading an image from the original; a signal output unit for outputting a signal corresponding to the movement of the image reading sensor relative to the original; a timing signal generating circuit 112 for generating a timing signal for defining a timing used as a reference for acquiring the data of the image read from the original by the image reading sensor from the image reading sensor, on the basis of the signal output from the signal output unit; and a timing delay circuit for delaying a latter timing so that an interval between itself and a one former timing may be not less than a predetermined time, if the latter timing in which the interval between itself and the one former timing is shorter than a predetermined time is included in the timing defined by the timing signal generated by the timing signal generating circuit.
