PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power line communication system and a power line communication restricting device capable of effectively prohibiting power line communication. SOLUTION: A transmission/reception circuit 24 of the power line communication restricting apparatus 20 captures an electric signal on a power line 12, and supplies it to a spectrum measurement apparatus 26. The spectrum measurement apparatus 26 measures the spectrum of the electric signal from the transmission/reception circuit 24, and notifies a control circuit 28 of a measurement result. The control circuit 28 determines whether a PLC signal exists on the power line 12 on the basis of the measurement result of the spectrum measurement apparatus 26. Determining that the PLC signal exists on the power line 12, the control circuit 28 causes a prohibition signal generating circuit 32 to generate a prohibition signal, and the transmission/reception circuit 24 sends the prohibition signal from the prohibition signal generating circuit 32 to a power supply plug 22, i.e. the power line 12. Upon receiving the prohibition signal on the power lines 12, 14, PLC modems 40, 50 stop transmission of the PLC signal for a predetermined period from that time onward. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
