1,028,557. Tear means for packages. FR. HESSER, MASCHINENFABRIK A.G. March 10, 1964 [May 27, 1963], No. 9952/64. Heading B8C. [Also in Division B5] Each of two tear lines 4 (Fig. 1), defining a tear strip in a plastics foil package covering, consists of a score line cut into one face of the foil but not penetrating to the other face. Two pairs of such lines may define the tear strip (Fig. 4, not shown) and a reinforcing strip 2 of heat sealable or self-adhesive material may be secured to either the inside or the outside of the package. The tear means may be formed by a machine (Fig. 5, not shown) comprising rollers 6, 7, which draw the material between rotary disc knives 12 mounted on rocking levers 11 and a support 10 which may be a rotating counter roller, the pressure of the knives being adjustable by weights 13 or compression springs. Knives rigidly fastened to the levers 11 may be used, the number of knives depending on whether one or two pairs of score lines are required. The reinforcing strip 2 may be drawn between a roller 15 and a counter roller 16, which is preferably resilient and, if required, heated. Cutaways 5 (Fig. 1) may be provided at one end of the material 1, to facilitate opening the package. |
