PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for detecting defect of an aluminum foil, in a liquid paper container in which a paper substrate is covered with a thermoplastic resin and the aluminum foil. SOLUTION: The liquid paper container 12 filled with a content liquid 21 is formed with a belt-like packaging material 16 in which the paper substrate 13 is covered with the thermoplastic resin 14 and the aluminum foil 15. The content liquid 21 is filled into a cylindrical packaging material 19 while the content liquid 21 holds a definite liquid level position 21a, and a transverse seal 22 is applied to form a pillow-shaped liquid paper container 23. A float 30 for detecting a position P at a certain liquid level is equipped along an outer side face 24a of a filling pipe 24. The device 25 for detecting defect of the aluminum foil comprises a projector 26 and a receiver 27, and the projector 26 projects infrared rays Q into the cylindrical packaging material 19 through a reflector 28. The receiver 27 corresponds to an upper vicinity R1 of the float 30 on the outer side face 19a of the cylindrical packaging material 19 and to an upper vicinity R2 of the position P of the content liquid 21 and covers the whole periphery of the cylindrical packaging material 19.
