PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle control system where a missing node is appropriately stored even in memory rewriting of an ECU and a data rewrite tool. SOLUTION: In the vehicle control system C, a plurality of control units 1, 2, 3 are connected through an in-vehicle network 30, and the communication state of the other control units 1, 2, 3 is monitored through the transmission and reception of existence recognition information by mutual control units. When an application date stored in a non-volatile memory 103 of the control unit is rewritten by a data rewrite tool 10, the other control unit does not record the node of the control unit during rewriting as the missing node by enabling the data rewrite tool 10 to substitutionally perform the transmission of the existence recognition information.
