PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a print preparatory method of a screen printing apparatus and the screen printing apparatus in which a preparatory operation of an operator is improved, and thereby production efficiency can be consequently improved. SOLUTION: The screen printing apparatus is provided in which printing is performed by bringing a squeegee into contact with a surface of a mask sheet and reciprocating the squeegee in a state where a substrate and a mask sheet are superimposed on each other, wherein the squeegee is moved to a specific position suitable for a specific preparatory operation and the squeegee is controlled to retain a posture suitable for the specific preparatory operation in a state where the squeegee is spaced from the surface of the mask sheet when the specific preparatory operation necessary for printing is performed by an operator.
