PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide hyaluronic acid fiber having sufficient safety and mechanical strength as a medical material, continuously producible as single extrafine fiber using hyaluronic acid gel. SOLUTION: A method for producing the hyaluronic acid fiber 5 comprises the step P1 of adding a crosslinking agent 2 to hyaluronic acid 1 followed by dissolving the hyaluronic acid 1 to obtain the hyaluronic acid gel 3, the step P2 of spinning the hyaluronic acid gel 3 under extrusion to obtain gel-like undrawn hyaluronic acid fiber 4, the step P3 of a heat treating the gel-like undrawn hyaluronic acid fiber 4, and the step P4 of drawing the thus heat-treated undrawn hyaluronic acid fiber 4; wherein, the steps P3 and P4 may be conducted simultaneously.
