<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having a function for displaying operation guidance and constituted so that an operator can understand the whole of operation procedure even if he (she) does not view the operation guidance successively. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has a function for displaying the outline of the operation guidance in accordance with the state of the apparatus and a function for displaying the detailed guidance, and enables the operator to select whether the detailed operation guidance is displayed further after displaying the outline of the operation guidance.
